COMMONWEALTH GAMES BID 2010

Our firm was hired to plan and design the proposed sport venues for the City of Hamilton's bid to host the 2010 Commonwealth Games. The new sport venues included: The new McMaster Aquatic Centre with a 10-lane, 51mX25mX3m deep pool, 2000 permanent seats increased to 5000 seats for the Games. The new Commonwealth Stadium with a seating capacity of 27,000 increased to 42,000 temporary seats for the Games. During the Games mode Stadium would have an eight lane, 400 m running track and natural grass infield. In post games stage the running track would be replaced with the state of the art synthetic field for the proffesional football. The McMaster Stadium, located on the West side of Cootes Drive was designed with seating capacity of 7,000 seats, an eight -lane running track, synthetic infield surface, club house with changes rooms and support facilities. Our firm also provided venue layouts for the existing facilities that were going to be used during the games.

This project consists of a one-storey addition to the existing 15,000sqft. Building. Michael Torseny, founding Principal of Torsney Graff Architects Incorporated, designed the original building. A new entrance and lobby will provide barrier-free access to the building. An irregular shaped special-needs pool approx. 10m x 10m with viewing from the main lobby will be accommodated in the addition. Renovations to the existing change rooms will provide family type change room function. A children’s play area and a community room are located off the new main lobby area.
