SALTFLEET HIGH SCHOOL

The expanding East Mountain area dictated the need for this new High School. The use of brick and glass cladding helps to integrate the building architecture with the surrounding residential properties. A large open courtyard acts as a prime meeting and gathering space for the schools 1250 students. A large cafetorium provides a unique opportunity to integrate the cafeteria, auditorium and lecture theatre, providing a higher seating capacity for assemblies and performance. As you walk into the main lobby, you are greeted by a large tiered open atrium, lit with natural light from a bow shaped sky light above. The design includes a three room Day Care Centre with separate outdoor play area. A rooftop Astronomical Observatory complete with computerized telescope is a dominant feature as you approach the school. A state of the art sports facility includes a triple gymnasium, two sports fields, a Running Track and raised Bleachers for 800 spectators.


 

WATERDOWN HIGH SCHOOL

The school was constructed to call for a growing demand for a new secondary facility for the ever expanding Waterdown community. The school was designed to accommodate 930 students in addition to providing a full privately operated Day Care Centre with an outdoor playground. In 1997 the shool received a $2.5M addition consisting of a third gymnasium with change rooms and a two storey eight classroom wing. The additions increased the capacity for the building to 1200 students. Constructed on a sloping site, we were able to integrate permanent concrete spectator bleachers within the slope and along the playing field. The school has been feature in several trade articles.

 
 

NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL
Burlington, Ontario

Opened in 1990, this Secondary School in north Burlington was designed to accommodate 1500 students. In 1998 an eight-classroom addition was constructed. The large atrium mall like common space, provides a gathering space where students can integrate with one another in a relaxed setting. The long cathedral ceiling skylights provide an abundance of natural light for the natural landscape features. The facility includes a large triple gymnasium wing that can be totally separated after hours, for use by local community groups. A running track with permanent concrete spectator bleachers complements the playing field. From appointment as Architects, for this challenging project, to tendering phase, our team met the Board's programme and construction demands in less than five months, demonstrating our Firm's organizational abilities.
